A Place to Meet!
« on: May 19, 2009, 11:58:45 AM »

Hi all. So, I mentioned during last month's CST meeting that I'm part-owner of a wine club business, and we have a relatively spacious office right downtown, and that as long as it's not on a night where we're doing a wine tasting or event, it'd probably be okay to hold a CAMRA beer tasting there. I ran this by my partners and nobody objected, so we're "GO". What dates are we looking at? I know that the first and third Wednesdays are when we're typically tasting wine, so those are out, but most other nights are fine.

Hi Evan! Thanks for making your place available. I believe we were hoping to be there for the June 9th tasting. Does that work for you?

I am good to go for June 9th.  I am looking forward to it and I will likely have an American Cascade Amber and a Belgian Pale Ale.

I'll probably have a shiny new IPA, an oak-aged session and (insert blood curdling scream) the coconut curry hefe.

Sounds good. I'll bring my Orval-esque beer, aka the Golden Trout. I don't feel like hooking up the beer gun or drafting off to a growler and losing a whole mess o' carbonation so I might just crate along a corney and a picnic tap.

I'm planning on attending.  I'll bring my new APA and the really bad Pils (to get input on what went wrong).

I'm in.  I figured I'll just drink everyone else's beer.   Wink
I'll bring a belgian pale and a pale ale supplemented with dandelion (bittering) and sweet woodruff (dry hopped).

I'm planning to bring a couple of ciders that I’d like to compare. They are identical except for the type of sugar I used to bump the SG. On one I used regular cane sugar and the other is a mix of turbinado and dextrose. These were made with apples pressed on Oct 9.  Mostly staymans, mixed with empire, golden delicious, small amount of granny smith. I used nottingham yeast and cold crashed them at 1.002 for the turbinado/dextrose batch and 1.004 for the cane batch. Both were a little on the dry side, so  I might bring something a little sweeter also.

Will we need CO2? I can bring my tank, but I don't have a manifold and can only hook up two at a time. (ball-lock)

I have a Scottish 70/~ if it doesn't taste like crap. Oh hell, I may bring it anyway.

Are new guys invited?  I just moved here to Charlottesville from Herndon up in NOVA.  I do not have my Brewery working yet(should be up and running mid June) so I have no homebrew to contribute yet.  In the two months I have been here I seem to have run out!  Anyway if possible I would like to meet everyone if it is ok.  I am sure I will find something interesting to contribute.

Thank you

Hey Levi, welcome to the area.  I don't think anyone would have a problem with a new person joining us. Just don't come to mooch (i.e. if you bring beer that comes in a 30-pack, you're out  Angry )  If you need the details (I don't think they were posted on the open forum), let me know and I can pass them along to you.

Welcome, Levi.  I would second what Spidey said.  Feel free to come to the tasting, just bring some commercial beer that you would like to share along with you.

Just to be clear - when this post started, we were looking at June 9th, but the new date for the tasting is June 11th, right?
