I received a Spanish porrón for Christmas. I have heard the device described as a Spanish cousin of the beer bong or beer boot.
Basically, it's a glass vessel with an inlet, a reservoir and a spout. The reservoir serves as the base of the device and is shaped like an onion with a flattened bottom. Off the top of the reservoir is a tallish conical tube which serves as the inlet for wine. A sharply tapering cylindrical spout comes off the end of it. The method of consuming wine is to start with the outlet near the face and start the flow of wine while gradually moving the vessel as far off as possible from the face. It's generally a great way to pour wine on a shirt. At best, the drinker looks AWESOME! There's a picture of me somewhere succeeding in consuming wine without looking like a dope.
I haven't tried beer in it yet for fear of glomming up the narrow outlet with unfiltered goodness (and the danger of spilling beer
I'm also a fan of a pair of alabaster wine goblets I picked up on the downtown mall.
