After my previous post, I downloaded 2 of the programs mentioned in the article on open-source brewing programs.  Based on the screenshots and features, I've been playing with Brewtarget since.  This program is excellent!!!  You guys really should check it out.  You can't enter recipes in by fermentable percentages, but it does give you percentage values after you enter weight. It also generates brewday step-by-step instructions.  I'll have to take some known recipes and see if it generates correct numbers.  But what I really like about it are the instructions, the interface, the databases, and the little pint glass is kind of cool too.  If you like QBrew, then definitely check Brewtarget out.

Thanks for the post, Greg.  I have definitely appreciated having BeerSmith, and it works great.  However, if you have not purchased any software yet, it sounds like BrewTarget would be a good app to look at.  I have also looked at BrewBlogger (http://www.brewblogger.net), as it can be configured as a server-based app to support a homebrew club.  But, I never got around to downloading it and playing with it.

I use beersmith @ Wild Wolf brewery and have always used it for homebrewing too. Very straightforward, and it only costs 20 bucks for a copy on two computers.
